How to Find Your Social Media Handle

A social media handle is your unique identifier (username) on a social network, typically what you’re “@-something” on platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, etc.
It’s different from your display name: the display name might be your full name (“Jane Doe”) whereas the handle might be @janedoe123.
For business/brand accounts, the handle is the public username of the business profile, often tied to the company’s identity rather than an individual’s.

Here are general guidelines you can apply across most platforms:

Check consistency across platforms : If you know one handle, you can try to find the same or similar handle on other platforms (helps with brand/person verification).
Search by name : Go to the platform and enter the person’s or company’s name in the search bar.
Check profile URL or username field : On many platforms the handle is visible in the URL (e.g., instagram.com/username) or shown near the top of the profile.
Check settings or profile information : For your own account or one you’re logged into, you can often open “Settings → Account → Username” to see exactly what the handle is.
Copy directly : Once located, copy the handle exactly (including correct case, underscores, periods) because handles are precise identifiers.
